Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo offered some insight into the dismissal of long time frontman Scott Weiland. He and new frontman Chester Bennington, who also fronts Linkin Park, sat down with Rolling Stone to dish.
"It was a very difficult decision to terminate the face of your band," DeLeo said. "But we really didn't have any other choice."
DeLeo said that there were "legal things" preventing him from getting too much into the split, but he did say that the band had been "saddled by someone for a long time. We've always looked out for Scott's best interests and tried to be a great friend to someone who really didn't care to be friends with us. I don't think we had any other choice. We knew that was what we wanted before we thought about getting another singer."
The rest of the interview focused on the new EP, High Rise, and what's its been like working with Bennington.
STP hits the road this month to support the LP, which is due October 5.
