After finishing a string of international dates, Counting Crows have put together a tour with The Wallflowers that will start in June and stretch through July. The tour is a relatively short run of dates that’s perfect for Adam Duritz and Counting Crows because it gives them enough time at the end of the summer to start putting together a new record. Talking with Alternative Addiction recently, Duritz is excited about the dates with The Wallflowers this summer, and he was equally excited about the international shows the Counting Crows just got to play with Lucy Rose in tow. He discussed some highlights from Europe and Australia with AA.

“I love playing in the UK and I love getting over to Holland,” said an excited Duritz recalling his latest adventures. “We have a lot of good friends in Holland from when we recorded over there. That was fun. One of the things that stuck with me the most was it was Lucy and her band’s first time playing in front of those kinds of crowds. I didn’t realize that every night it would be like ‘Oh my God, there’s a lot of people out here’ for her. It was cool to see and she killed them every night. She was great and her band was great every night. It’s always nice to see that happen, to see a band that you’re a fan of go out there and blow away your audience. It’s cool to see fans of yours in the front row singing their songs. That was a big highlight.”

Being involved heavily in independent music with The Outlaw Roadshow, Counting Crows take a lot of pride in introducing people to great new music. That’s always fun for the Counting Crows frontman to do, but a personal highlight for Duritz was playing at one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.

“We played two nights at the Sydney Opera House, which was pretty cool because it’s the Sydney Opera House. I’ve always wanted to play there. It was last on my list of gigs I wanted to play. CBGBs is gone and we can never play that. But other than that, I’ve got every one on my list and the last one was Sydney Opera House,” said Duritz.

Adam also went on to talk about how amazing crowds were in both Europe and Australia before briefly talking about the shows with The Wallflowers. He said he was excited to play with Jakob Dylan and co. after touring with the band years ago. He also looked a little further into the future on the topic of the next Counting Crows album. When asked if they had anything written for the new record and what they had prepared, he said that things were still in their early stages.

“We’ll probably record on the west coast, we’ve been looking at a bunch of places. We have our own equipment because we’ve always done our records in houses so we’ve had our own portable home recording studio for a long time. If there’s enough room for the whole band to play we can turn any studio into a great studio with our equipment. We’ve been looking at a bunch of places over the past few years, sort of trying to get ready. I have a bunch of pieces of music, not really many finished songs yet. It happens when we go in, or right before we go in. I tend to write a lot in the studio too,” added the Counting Crows frontman on the topic of the band’s next record.

We’ll see what the future holds for the next Counting Crows album, but for now, fans can be excited about the new trek with The Wallflowers. Check out the dates below and visit the band’s official site for ticket information.
