After a decade of making music together, My Chemical Romance have disbanded. The popular “on-hiatus” term wasn’t used by the group in their statement that they posted on their official web site, but it appeared to be an amicable split. The statement reads:

“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support and for being part of the adventure.”

My Chemical Romance’s peak years were 2006-2008 during their tour cycle of The Black Parade. There were few bands that were running stronger than MCR at the time. The album is one of the best albums of the past decade and went on to sell well over 1,000,000 units. The group’s last release came in the form of Conventional Weapons. The project involved two unreleased songs being distributed every month for five months. They started in October of last year and then wrapped it up in February. Conventional Weapons featured unreleased material that was being worked on prior to the band releasing their 2009 release Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. A new album was reportedly being worked on by the band in a studio they were building themselves, unlike Weapons, that material seems unlikely to see the light of day.
