It’s been an amazing couple of weeks for British rock trio The Virginmarys and their full-length Wind-up debut King of Conflict. It started with the iTunes’ much-coveted “Editor’s Choice” honors and a history-making iTunes Single of the Week feature for the band’s new song, “Just A Ride.” Two versions of the track (the amped and acoustic renditions) were featured as part of iTunes’ “Single of the Week” program – it’s the first time ever that iTunes has singled out two songs from the same album in the same week. And by making iTunes "Editor's Choice" list, The Virginmarys join an elite group that includes past honorees such as A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Diamond Rings and The Weeknd, among others. Next came a Top 10 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and a 3 ½ star review from USA Today, who praised the band for their brand of “visceral, raw-throated rock that runs from The Who through Motorhead and Nirvana.” Yahoo! also picked the album as one of its hot releases of the week, writing “there’s something about a good, loud trio that just feels right” and Alternative Press spotlighted the group as “A Band You Need To Know.”
Next up for The Virginmarys (guitarist/vocalist Ally Dickaty, drummer Danny Dolan and bassist/vocalist Matt Rose) is a U.S. tour that kicks off at this year’s SXSW. Fans in Austin can catch them playing lead single “Dead Man’s Shoes” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8ehThdbXJs) the stunning “Just A Ride” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p38-azxR7OA) and more at the March 13th Sony City Official Showcase, the March 14th Sony City Showcase, the March 14th Wind-up Records 15th Anniversary Party and the March 15th Paste/HGTV “Stages On Sixth” party. Their full U.S. run launches Tuesday, April 2nd at DC 9 in Washington, DC, as openers for IAMDYNAMITE.
Praised by the BBC for their "raw, intoxicating rock & roll," The Virginmarys blend the sound and fury of Nirvana, Mudhoney and the Screaming Trees with the honesty of prime British rock of the early 1970’s. On stage or in rehearsals, this trio are at their most comfortable with instruments in hand and they prove it on King of Conflict, an album that was recorded live in the studio with Toby Jepson producing and Chris Sheldon (Pixies, Foo Fighters) mixing.
