Still enjoying success from 2011’s “Shake, Shake, Shake,” Bronze Radio Return is now preparing to release new music in 2013. The sextet has already recorded and mixed 15 songs, and is currently playing shows along the East Coast in promotion of the forthcoming disc. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Chris Henderson, recently talked with Alternative Addiction about the band’s time in the studio and their future tour plans.
After attending the prestigious Hartt School of Music, Henderson founded Bronze Radio Return with fellow alumni Rob Griffith (drums), Bob Tanen (bass), and Matt Warner (keyboards). Soon after, Patrick Fetkowitz (lead guitar) and Craig Struble (harmonica, guitar) were brought in to round out the lineup. Since their inception in 2008, the band has gradually built a credible fanbase while releasing the Bronze Radio Return EP as well as two LPs – Old Time Speaker and Shake! Shake! Shake!
Bronze Radio Return yet again relocated to record their new and as of yet untitled album. While the guys completed Old Time Speaker in Tennessee and Shake! Shake! Shake! in Oklahoma, this time around the band headed to Charlottesville, VA to record on what Henderson described as a “goat and chicken farm.” After about 5 weeks, the band had 15 tracks finished and are now in the process of determining just how many will make the final cut.
“We really enjoy working with the team of people that we’re working with right now. I think that the more that we do it, the more the communication and vision strengthens within the group. But we constantly want to go to new places; that’s something we’ve all agreed on. So as much as we’ve had great experiences at the last couple places we recorded, we like that element of being in the unknown if you will. Not knowing exactly what the situation will be keeps us on our toes and keeps it fresh….we really enjoyed being much removed this time around. It was a new experience and it constantly feels new so it doesn’t feel like we’re just going through the motion.”
As of now, there is no definitive release date yet for the new record due to the fact there is still life on the album, Shake! Shake! Shake! The band continues to gain recognition for single bearing the same name and most recently, the PGA and Fed Ex used the previously unreleased song, “Further On,” for their new commercial, “Born for This.”
“We recorded 15 songs and we’re really happy with how they came out. I think it’s certainly an extension of Shake! Shake! Shake! with kind of a new twist on it. I think our listeners will hear it and recognize it’s relatable to what we’ve done yet different at the same time. But we’re very excited about it and it will be even more exciting to go out and play this new material. We’re really just anxious to start the whole new album cycle.”
From February 24th to March 1st, Bronze Radio Return will be joining Sister Hazel, Green River Ordinance, NEEDTOBREATHE, and many more on the Rock Boat XIII. The annual cruise will begin in Miami and eventually make its way to Great Stirrup Cay. Then later in the year, the band will be hitting the West Coast for the first time to play a string of shows.
“We’re excited to do the Rock Boat thing that we did last year. It’s basically a festival on a cruise ship heading towards the Caribbean Islands with an all you can eat buffet. It’s really fun and there’s roughly thirty five bands; a lot of them we’ve gotten to know over the last year or two, and it’s kind of fun for the bands to hang out and to catch up with these guys that we don’t get to see too much. We’re also looking forward to SXSW in Austin which is one of our favorite cities and we’re really thrilled to be heading out to the West Coast this time around too; there, we’ll be kind of exploring some of the unknown territories to us.”
Fans can expect to hear the new Bronze Radio Return album by the second quarter of 2013 though the band hopes to settle upon an official release date soon.
