Green Day was forced to cancel a recent concert in Bologna, Italy after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong fell ill. The rocker was reportedly rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment for an undisclosed illness, forcing the trio to cancel the schedule performance.

Band member Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool released a video on the web breaking the news:

"We sincerely apologise to our fans, but unfortunately due to illness Billie Joe has been hospitalised, and we regretfully must cancel our performance in Bologna, Italy this evening. We are beyond devastated and will make it up to you when we come back next summer," they say in the video.

The first title in the band's forthcoming Uno!, ˇDos!, ˇTré! trilogy is set for release on September 24.

Green Day also made headlines earlier this month by confirming a date at London's Emirates Stadium next July.
