The deadly stage collapse prior to a Radiohead concert last week in Toronto, has led to safety experts calling for higher standards and practices in the stage erection industry.

Janet Sellery, an arts-based safety consultant, told the Global News that the industry currently has "inconsistent labour and safety standards."

"Because of the unique situations that the live performance and event industry involves, it's not clear to a lot of people how to implement them (regulations)," she added to the news network.

Another industry expert, Lars Brogaard, told Rolling Stone that the use of steel roofs-not aluminum-ought to be the industry standard.

Four companies, including concert promoter Live Nation and Radiohead's Ticker Tape Touring, have been asked to comply with an investigation by the Canadian government into the stage collapse.

Last summer witnessed the collapse of stages at Cheap Trick and Sugarland concerts.
