Philly based rock band, June Divided, will be releasing their debut album, Backbone, on July 10th. Following up the band's debut EP that they released last year, the band will release their new album alongside dates on Vans Warped Tour in July.
What started out as a distraction from the job hunt became the actual job itself for college grads Melissa Menago (vocals/guitar)and Chris Kissel (guitar), once they stumbled across drummer, Keith Gill, on Craigslist. All lifelong musicians, their connection turned out to be a creative catalyst. The three decided to follow the rise they had found themselves on when they released their debut EP, The Other Side of You, in February 2011. Upon the release, June Divided hit the ground running.
In 2011, the band was on the move with performances at SXSW, Warped Tour, and a music video for hit "Bullet" on MTVu. In addition to being featured on NBC, commercial radio stations and Alternative Press Magazine, the band scored a week on Vans Warped Tour 2012 when they were chosen as a finalist out of 23,000 bands in the Ernie Ball: Battle of the Bands competition.
The band found their permanent fourth member in bassist, Lenny Sasso, in December 2011 and the quartet got started writing their debut full-length album shortly after. Produced by Alec Henninger (Framing Hanley, Transmit Now, Hierosonic), Backbone is certainly a risk all in itself. Despite its independent budget, variety of subject matter and bold technical traits, the band stayed true to their form when it comes to rock and roll. With their first single "Secrets", you will feel the honest lyrics, strong pop chords, and full energy of the band that will make you get up out of your seat and sing along.
"There's quite a variety of material on this album; it was a bold thing to do. The sounds and the writing style tie it all together - but after a year and half in the industry, we had a lot to say and weren't afraid to say it," says Menago.
June Divided will release Backbone on July 10th.
