After Rebelution’s most recent relese Peace of Mind debuted at #13 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart, the band is in a celebratory mood. A big reason why Peace of Mind turned out so well is because the band got in the right state of mind before recording it.
“The best way to do it is to just have fun with it,” said Rebelution lead singer Eric Rachmany in a recent interview with Alternative Addiction. “When you have fun and you enjoy the music you’re writing it comes out honest. That’s what’s important. You can have all of the money in the world and all of the equipment in the world, if you’re not having fun with it and you’re not honest with the way you’re playing it, it’s not going to come out the way you want to come out. Getting in that mode is so important in recording, that way it comes honest.”
The state of mind is crucial for Rebelution, but contributing to an amazing record was a number of people and that made it an exciting process.
“We recorded it in Santa Barba for the most part,” said Rachmany. “A couple of songs were recorded in L.A. One was recorded on the road, in a hotel room. A lot of overdubbing was done all over the world. We worked with a few producers- Errol Brown, Michael Goldwasser, Amp Live, Keith Armstrong, and Yeti Beats- he did a few tracks on the record with us. It was fun with different people who wanted to get their interpretation of our music and kind of mix it up a little bit.”
In addition to the number of producers, the band did a track with famous Blues Traveler frontman, John Popper. The inclusion of Popper on the track, “Closer I Get” was set up years ago when Rebelution played with the band.
“We played shows with John Popper a couple of years ago at Red Rocks in Colorado, started Rachmany. “And he invited me on stage to sing, “What I Got” by Sublime. We practiced it in the rehearsal room and when we did the performance it was great. After the show he told me anytime you guys have a song that you want me on, I’d love to be on it. When we were working on “Closer I Get” we had this minute long instrumental section at the end of the song, and I had this connection with John Popper. I don’t know where he recorded it at, but he sent it over to us and it came out as a hit.”
With the strong debut of the album and sales and recognition of the album still moving steadily along it’s safe to say that Rebelution’s new album, Piece of Mind is a hit. The album was released in a normal/standard version and then released as a deluxe version. The deluxe/triple album version of Peace of Mind, includes Peace of Mind: Acoustic and Peace of Mind: Dub.
