After their disbandment in 2004, fans of Southern California rockers Eve 6 have been praying that they might hear new music from the band again one day. The band took one very promising step toward that objective this week when they announced that they signed a deal with Fearless Records.
“We did a bunch of showcases for different labels and Fearless was one of them,” drummer Tony Fagenson told Alternative Addiction during a recent interview. “They were really excited about the prospect of working with us, they dug the new material, and it seemed like a really good home for us. We had given a lot thought over the last couple years to maybe put a record out ourselves, but we always felt that we wanted a team around us that we could work with in getting the music to as many people as possible.”
Indeed, the pairing of the band with Fearless Records does seem like a good match. Not only does the band and the label share similar geographic locations, Fearless gives Eve 6 national distribution under Sony/RED, and understands how to promote rock bands as they currently support bands like Go Radio, Mayday Parade, Every Avenue, The Maine, Eye Alaska, and many more.
Of course, to get to the point where Eve 6 was ready to sign a deal is a completely different story. In just the three short years that the band had been apart, the industry changed quite a bit.
“When we decided to start playing again as Eve 6 there was nothing going on,” said Fagenson. “We were off RCA, we didn’t even have a MySpace page, Facebook, nothing, we didn’t even own our website anymore.“
Over the following four years the band would slowly gain back their longtime fan base through relentless touring and re-establishing their online presence. Then, in March of this year the band welcomed back original guitarist Jon Siebels completing their original line up.
“When we re-hooked up with Jon again a few months ago, that was when it really started to feel like we re-kicked off this whole thing again.”
Due to his great track record with the band, they recruited their original producer Don Gilmore for the new album. Gilmore produced both the band’s self-titled debut and their 2001 hit album Horrorscope.
“We felt it made the most sense to hook up with Don Gilmore again,” said Fagenson. “It really feels like we’re getting the band back together, having Jon again and Don producing. That combined with all this material that we’ve been working on for the last few years, it’s all coming together to hopefully be our strongest album yet.”
The band is set to enter the studio with Gilmore in June, and hopes to have an album released before the end of the year.
“We’re definitely ready to go. We’re ready to get these songs off our chest and out to the world. I feel like things are lining up the right way for us. We’re excited to hit the road with an album out and a label and do this thing for real. We can’t wait.”
