Canadian band Hedley is preparing to release their third album The Show Must Go in the US on October 12th. While the band saw great success in Canada for their first two releases, neither gathered much attention in the US. Now as the band prepares for their third US release, guitarist Dave Rosin says the band is hoping this will be the release that breaks them into the US market.
“There is a lot going on in the US to try and break through,” Rosin told Alternative Addiction during an interview last week. “You guys have an expansive country, it’s huge. I mean Canada is huge, but we only have 10% of your population. So to get our music out there to everyone is a real challenge.”
After releasing their first two albums in Universal imprint Fontana in the States, the band will shift to Island Records for the upcoming release, which Rosin thinks will help increase their chances for success.
“We actually feel that this time we are releasing the record with someone who feels really positive about it,” says Rosin of their new label home. “When you work on something so hard for so long you want someone to feel as strongly about something as you do.”
With new label foundation to support them, and what many critics believe is some of Hedley’s best work to date, it would seem as if the third time just might be a charm for Hedley. Ultimately, Rosin says the band just wants to get their music heard by as many people as possible, and they are extremely grateful for any chance they get.
“Essentially we are just story tellers and we are trying to share with the rest of the world what we are trying to say,” says Rosin. “Over the past few years I think we as a band consider ourselves very lucky that we get to play music for a living, and our goal will always be to play for more people.”
With The Show Must Go having been already released in Canada for some time, the band decided to add an additional track to the US release, and re-record a handful of tracks on the album
.
“That’s one of the advantages of getting to re-release a record, you get to take a step back and tweak it a little bit,” explained Rosin. “The Show Must Go has been out in Canada for a year, so we wanted to give the US release something extra, so we added a brand new song.”
Hedley is currently touring in support of the upcoming release, with US dates planned through the end of October. After a short break in November, the band is expected to return for a number of shows before the end of the year.
The Show Must Go will be available online and in stores October 12, the first single “Perfect” is available now on iTunes.
