According to Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga, the band’s upcoming new album, Audio Secrecy, will have a very diverse sound in comparison to the band’s previous two albums, due in large part to the fact that all five band members wrote songs for the record.
“There is five writers in the band now, including myself. We all individually wrote songs over the last couple years and then we all got together and learned them all and put our own stamp on them,” Mayorga told Alternative Addiction. “We came up with something really different, and really eclectic. I think it’s a really well rounded record.”
In Mayorga’s opinion, the best bands and albums are the ones in which multiple song writers in the band contribute.
“If everyone is capable of writing, and people have great ideas why not?” said Mayorga. “Why do something one way and linear, when you can have many hills and valleys? I prefer that.
“If you listen to old records from [Led] Zeppelin, [Pink] Floyd, and the Beatles, listen to how diverse their records were. They had four or five writers and that is a great thing, a lot of bands don’t do that these days.”
Stone Sour’s Audio Secrecy due out September 7th, with the first single entitled "Say You'll Haunt Me" debuting at radio now. The band is slated to head out on tour in support of the release in early August.
