In a recent interview with Kerrang magazine, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong said the band is working on a follow up to their 2009 release 21st Century Breakdown, and already has a handful of songs done. With the aforementioned album not even a year old, the news comes as a bit of a surprise, considering there was a 5 year break after the release of the band's smash album American Idiot.
"We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam," Armstrong told the magazine. "We wanted to get [the new songs] down in some early form."
The band has been road testing many of the newly recorded tracks on their current European tour, and is expected to continue giving fans a sneak peak during their summer European dates (posted below.)
The new songs previewed include the epic 8 minute track 'Won't Get Fooled Again,' the roaring politically charged 'Pinball Wizard,' and 'Baba O'Riley' which is rumored to feature a long violin solo. A title and release date for the new set has not yet been announced.
