Flyleaf announced earlier this week plans to tour with 10 Years and Fair To Midland.  The tour, which kicks off May 4th, is in support of the band’s latest release Memento Mori which hit stores late last fall.  The album was a follow up to the band’s self-titled debut, which came out in 2005.

“I really feel like people are connecting with the songs, which is a really important thing,” Flyleaf guitarist Sameer Bhattacharya told Alternative Addiction about the band’s latest release.  “That’s what we were after when we recorded them.  We wanted to make them as honest as possible; I think that is what people want to hear.”

The recording of the album, which was over four years in the making, was unaffected by the pressure placed on the band to match the success of their debut according to Bhattacharya.
“It wasn’t any pressure on us; our main focus was just to keep true to ourselves and what we believe,” explained Bhattacharya.  “We just focus on writing the songs and performing them live.  We wanted to stay honest to ourselves and honest to our fans.”

The band’s undeniable connection with their fans is never more evident than at their live shows, which Bhattacharya says is one of the band’s most rewarding achievements.

“The reward is in that the audience is getting what you are doing,” says Bhattacharya.  “We want the audience to connect to the message of the songs.  We want them to know they’re not alone in what their dealing with and going through.”
