Unlike their near 10 year hiatus between their last two records, Candlebox isn’t wasting any time beginning work on their follow up to 2008’s Into The Sun.

“We’re motivated and inspired by what we’ve been able to achieve getting back together so far,” guitarist Peter Klett told Alternative Addiction in a recent interview.  “I have some ideas and Kevin has some ideas, so we’ll pool those together and start on another record.  I’m excited about doing another [album], I think it will be pretty cool.”

Klett says the band could start as early as next month on the new material.  After wrapping up their current summer tour, Klett will return to his home in Seattle for a break before heading to the studio.  Klett expects to collaborate with lead singer Kevin Martin remotely hoping to collaborate on the songs early on, a sharp contrast to the writing process for the last record.

“On Into The Sun it was a lot of individual ideas that we came together and completed,” explained Klett.  “This time Kevin is in LA and Scott and I are in Seattle.  I’ll work with Scott at the demo house and send it to Kevin to do what he needs to do to it.”

Musically, Klett said that it was too soon for the band to comment on what the new record will sound like, but Klett said that he would like to see the album have a more mainstream sound.

“Personally would like to get a little more contemporary…without getting dorky,” Klett said.  “I want to kind of branch out and write music for all types of people, but keeping the Candlebox style.”

Whatever the sound of the band’s next record, Klett is confident that fans will be enjoying Candlebox music for years to come.

“I know as musicians and writers we’re not done.  We have plenty more music to give to the fans.”

Candlebox is a fantastic band to see live and Into the Sun was a much needed rock album in such a crappy popular music climate. Kevin is the best rock singer out there right now. Hands down. More please...
