Matt Costa’s new album ‘Unfamiliar Places,’ may have just hit stores this week, but the wide variety of sounds on the album will strike a familiar cord with just about any listener.
The album’s title is actually taken from that concept according to Costa.
“Everyone kinda has these multiple faces that they wear at different times. Each song was me trying to uncover that,” Costa told Alternative Addiction.
And that’s the idea behind his new album released on Brushfire records. It was an album that Costa recorded very quickly, in just about a month. That’s a sharp contrast to his previous album, “Songs We Sing” which took well over 2 years to write and record.
The short turnaround helps capture the essence of what Costa felt as he penned the songs.
“I think it kinda of captured sort of a snapshot of the time that these songs were created. I moved to Sacramento at the time when I was writing these songs, and I spent some weeks in a cabin out there, just secluding myself from everything,” Costa explained.
2008 will be a big year for Costa, as he will be touring Australia, New Zealand, and Japan to start.
“I’m gonna sings these songs in as many places as I can. I’m gonna hit the road with these songs and they are going to be my best friend.”
