X-Men Orgins: Wolverine

X Men Origins: Wolverine is easily the darkest and most violent Marvel video game to be released in the past five years. Which is odd because the film it's based on is intense but somewhat tame when it comes to violence. That said blood flies, and so do heads for that matter, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine the game. It's rare that violence in a video game would be the first thing talked about , but with a movie adaptation this game's darkness and intensity seriously adds to the story and certain qualities should have been applied to the film as well as the game.

Even though the game follows the basis of the movie it takes a certain amount of time to finish the game to find any kind of movie spoilers in the game before you see the movie. More than the few spoilers, there are a ton of extra villains, bosses, and stages that make this game more about Wolverine the character than the movie did. And those extra villains/bosses added into the storyline are actually kind of cool and don't camp things up in the least amount. Without giving things away completely Wolverine has to square off against a giant robot in the latter stages of the game... and that is excellent.

The gameplay of the Wolverine is actually great for a 3rd Person action game. There are clipping flaws in places but nothing to be too concerned about and the puzzles in the game are somewhat challenging to go along with the button mashing you do as everybody's favorite X-man.  Hugh Jackman also does the voice for the game which doesn't take away from it at all and he actually does a great job with his voice over work.  The graphics and textures of the game are well done but the only knock is the load time for some of the videos and in spots the stages.

The biggest problem with X-Men Origins: Wolverine is it's replayablity value. There's not much to be had here. The normal difficulty of the game isn't that hard and hard becomes unlockable when you beat the game on normal. There's also some minor collectables to be found during the game but for a button-masher like this one it can prove to be slightly exhausting.

The cool thing about video games is you get to be taken into the role of the main character and what you did is represented on your TV. That's why a slow motion action sequence is bad ass in a video game but overdone in a movie. And that's what happens with Wolverine. It's the rare occurrence where the game is better than the movie.
