The Hangover

Selena Gomez makes another Disney Channel original movie in the Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie. Like the show, her character Alex is constantly feuding with her brother Justin (David Henrie) while getting into constant trouble with her misuse of magical power. In the movie, Alex gets angry with her parents for making her take a family vacation and jeopardizes her whole family when she says a typical teenage girl thing to say and her parents wind up not knowing each. When this happens not only is it strange for all three kids, they're also in danger of basically not existing. Think Back to the Future with magic, older parents acting like teenagers, and Disneyfied!

The TV series actually makes a decent transfer to movie form. The camera work and all of the cinematography is made to look like a movie and not the TV show. They could have easily just used the TV cameras and made a longer episode. It's good that they didn't. That’s one of the first things you notice. The other thing that’s kind of cool about the movie is how fast it flows. It’s a full length movie but it doesn’t feel like one. It feels like another episode of the show.

On the other side of that, this is what it is. It’s a movie for tweens that like the TV show. It’s likable by all, but really the show is made for its demo and so is the movie. Everyone can watch this once….  but it’s fans of the show that will be able to watch the movie over and over.
