It's not rare
for a movie to get a video game
based on it these days, but it is
rare when the game is supposed to
hold up on it's own and not just be
a promotional tool. That's what
Wanted is. It's a third-person
action game that follows the main
character Wesley Gibson after he has
taken down the fraternity and as he
now seeks to get revenge on the
society that not only murdered his
father, but murdered his mother too.
The storyline is
probably the best part of the game
and the writing is the most
enjoyable factor. One liner's from
Gibson played by actor James McAvoy
are hilarious. And the storyline is
something that could have been saved
for a movie if it didn't move from
time to time as much with Wesley and
his father. The writing makes up for
a few odd aspects in the gameplay
that come along with a 3rd person
action game. Sometimes movement
suffers from being on a weird axis,
and sometimes the game camera
suffers from that too but they're
all typical flaws with this
particular type of game.
One thing that
doesn't suffer from the game being a
3rd person action game is the Wanted
shooting style. Bullets can be bent
and moved and dudes can get their
asses whipped in some serious hand
to hand combat. The gameplay and
special abilities in the game rock
even though the choice of weapons is
seriously limited.
Wanted is one game
that doesn't suffer terribly from
being pushed out too soon because it
was meant to be a promotional tool.
Because it ended up being pushed
back it isn't a promotional tool at
all. While it suffers from some
minor issues it still plays through
as a great game and has some
replayability value with
achievements and different
difficulty levels. It's a game that
can be enjoyed even if you haven't
seen the movie but a game that will
be enjoyed even more so if you
enjoyed the movie. McAvoy is
hilarious, the storyline is awesome,
and the action in this one will keep
you glued to your console.
