Tony
Hawk: Shred
is a new game from
Activision in the
Tony Hawk series
that uses the
motion-censor board
that was introduced
with
Tony
Hawk: Ride.
This however is a
vastly different and
a vastly better
experience than its
predecessor. It’s
aimed for kids with
cell-shaded
animation and it
gives you the
ability to both
skate and snowboard
in different areas
with a slammin’
soundtrack to boot.
Shred
is aimed at a
younger audience. It
teaches them the
balancing basics of
snowboarding and
skating while
limiting the odds of
them getting bruised
and bloody at the
skate park. The game
is animated with
cell-shading
graphics and when
Tony Hawk gives
directions for
moves/tricks- he’s
explaining them for
a younger audience.
In a way- it’s
almost like getting
a skating lesson
from Tony Hawk…
which is pretty
awesome.
The fact that this
is aimed for a
younger audience is
kind of cool. Again-
anything that can
keep kids
entertained when
they can’t go
outside, but makes
them want to go
outside and try
something is a
winning product in
my book. Plus- the
game modes are all
fun across the board
for the little ones
and the ability to
play with their X360
avatar is a neat
feature that will
keep them playing as
well.
The soundtrack
features everything
from Jimmy Eat World
to A Day to Remember
to Vampire Weekend-
really it’s one of
the better
soundtracks to a
Tony Hawk game ever-
and there have been
some great
soundtracks over the
years. Bottom line
though, is this is
some of the best
music you’ll hear in
a game.
Tony
Hawk: Shred
is a cool game for
kids eleven and
under. It was made
perfectly for that
crowd and the
ability to snowboard
and skate, play as
your avatar, and a
badass soundtrack
make it a great Tony
Hawk experience.
