Over
the past few years,
Disney and Pixar
have given their
films the deluxe Blu-ray
treatment. Toy
Story, Toy Story 2,
Cars, Bugs Life, Up,
and Monsters Inc.
have all gotten the
Blu-ray go. Plus
with their new
releases have gotten
quality releases to.
Recently they put
out
The
Incredibles
in a giant four disc
Blu-ray bundle. This
bundle includes a
DVD and Digital copy
of the film, and a
Blu-Ray version of
the film to go along
with a Blu-ray full
of extras. Pixar’s
given us the best
treatment possible
with
The
Incredibles
and it’s worth
checking out.
Bob
Parr used to be Mr.
Incredible. That was
before the super
heroes got sent into
hiding by the
government after a
series of debacles.
Now he’s a
middle-aged
insurance salesman
struggling with an
identity crisis and
a mid-life crisis.
He wants to get back
into the superhero
business and does
some moonlighting.
In his moonlighting
he gets himself in
too deep for even
Mr. Incredible and
the rest of his
family has to come
to his aid. That’s
the basic of basics
with the plot of
The
Incredibles
but it fits. There
are also about a
dozen subplots that
aren’t as noticeable
as the main plot.
These subplots bob
and weave through
the main plot
seamlessly making
this Pixar’s best
film from a writing
standpoint.
That
writing is what
makes
The
Incredibles
unique. The story is
superb, but so are
the jokes. The jokes
in the movie for
everyone. And they
don’t resort to
obscure references
or toilet humor,
they’re
sophisticated yet
simple jokes that an
older audience can
relate to. There are
also the jokes and
the super hero
excitement that the
younger audience can
get into too. That’s
what makes Pixar’s
work with this movie
so incredible (get
it), it’s that it’s
literally for
EVERYONE. Not just
kids and then a
specific demo. It
crosses several
different groups of
people and everyone
can find something
to love and enjoy
about this unique
film.
The writing is
stellar and of
course the animation
is terrific because
it’s Pixar. In terms
of the animation,
this film has its
limitations with the
character design.
(The Incredibles
more or less started
the trend for how
people look in 3D
animated films the
last ten years.) But
it’s the environment
design that’s
impressive here.
Syndrome’s island
complete with the
tropical jungle, the
lava, and all of his
villainous gadgets
are animated
brilliantly. If you
go deeper than that,
the city design and
the building design
is incredible (did
it again.) The
characters might not
stand out like they
used to but the
environments
definitely do.
The
Incredibles
treatment of the
super hero is
fantastic, Pixar did
a great job with the
film but with this
Blu-ray release they
did an over the top
great job.. The four
Disc combo pack with
DVD and Digital copy
then a Blu-Ray/Blu-Ray
bonus package is
awesome. Among the
extras are those
featured on the
original DVD release
with the two shorts
of
Jack
Jack Attack
and
Boundin’.
Then on top of that
there are a couple
of great commentary
tracks and a new
round table where
they talk about the
creation of the
film. That’s just
getting you started
with a set of extras
that’s incr…
unbeatable! This Blu-Ray
release is filled
with bonus content.
Disney always does a
good job with that
on their rereleases
and here that’s no
exception.
The
Incredibles
on
Blu-ray
comes in bundle
that’s worth
checking out for all
audiences. The two
shorts are
brilliant, the story
and the writing of
the movie are both
tremendous, and the
animation work done
almost ten years
after its release
still stands out as
superb. Everyone can
put on their black
eye masks, sit back
and enjoy this
special release.
