There hasn’t really been an iconic
comedy released like
The Hangover
since the 90s. Judd Apatow’s brand
of humor isn’t the same as this nor
is Will Ferrell’s. The characters
are all realistic, but they rremain
different characters who face
problems in their traits instead of
just being partially crazy (Ferrell)
or stoned (Apatow.) The Hangover
puts four friends together on a
crazy trip to Vegas where they act
predictably crazy, except they don’t
remember anything about the night
before. All they know is that there
was a baby in the closet, a tiger in
the bathroom, and their best friend
who is supposed to get married the
next day…. Is missing.
You join Phil
(Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms),
and Alan (Zach Galifianacis) go
through the aftermath of the night
before so they can find Doug and get
him home in time for his wedding.
The cast of the movie really make it
run. There aren’t really any big
names in the cast and really save
for Mike Tyson there aren’t any big
cameos either. That’s part of what
makes it special. It's not an actor
playing a part, at least that's not
how you're involved in the story;
you believe that the characters are
themselves. You’re immersed into the
movie. A different casting choice
for a few roles and it wouldn't have
turned out that way. Why is
The Hangover
so funny? Because it’s raunchy when
it needs to be physical when it
needs to be and even dry when it
needs to be. And really it’s just a
well written movie.
The special
features on this Blu-Ray could have
been better. You get a few more
pictures from the missing camera,
you also get to go and see the real
locations where they filmed the
movie and a short story that goes
along with it. You see some improve
and and a few other things with Ken
Jeong. You also get a terrible gag
real, a bad action montage piece. So
really the special features should
have been better.
The special
features should have been slightly
better, but the movie itself is
outstanding and in Blu-Ray it looks
amazing. The video transfer was
definitely good and the audio is
amazing. The Blu-Ray packaging
includes a digital copy which again,
is definitely appreciated.
The Hangover
is one of the
best comedies to come out in recent
years. It was written well and Todd
Phillips and his cast had an amazing
charisma. Really everything lined up
for this comedy to be hilarious and
it’s a must
own on Blu-Ray for any comedy buff.
