It’s good when
there’s a film in the horror genre
with some originality. We mentioned
this in the
Jennifer’s
Body
review, but it’s worth saying again
basically because there’s another
Final
Destination
release in
The Final
Destination.
Not a terrible movie, and it looks
awesome on Blu-Ray and in 3D, but
really? There needed to be another
one of these made?
If you’ve never
watched the first film (which is
surprisingly good) a guy sees a
horrible event happen and freaks out
until him and a few people leave the
disaster area. The disaster happens
and everybody who left the scene
lives, but not for long. Death
decides that it needs to take what’s
rightfully it’s. This happens by
weird chains of events happening
until somebody brutally dies. The
least important to the most
important characters all die in that
order. The end. That’s all there is
to these movies.
While it’s not
near as original as the first and
the message and scare tactics are
all a little stale at this point the
suspense still admirably builds in
The Final
Destination.
Is it a good movie? No. It’s not
terrible though. It’s got a somewhat
no name cast in Bobby Campo, Shantel
VanSanten, Nick Zano, Haley Webb,
and Mykelti Williamson. They’re not
terrible,
but
they’re not great either. What is
great in this film is director David
Ellis' work. Really good stuff.
Interesting shots, and great 3D
effects.
The Blu-Ray
packaging is good with this release.
Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital Copy are
included and that’s appreciated but
the actual Blu-Ray disc has a
half-assed menu system with
one-screen and small text covering
everything on the disc. There’s one
cool bonus feature where some key
deaths from the movie are explained,
but that’s the only key feature
other than being able to watch the
movie in 3D or 2D.
I’ve seen
worse horror/thriller movies than
this but at this point it’s probably
best to put the
Final
Destination
franchise to
bed or add a devious killer to the
whole thing- mix things up, toss a
wrench into the gears and make it
better. Something needs to be done
because whether it’s in 3D or not,
the ideas in the film have been done
before because the franchise did
them before. Not terrible but not
great
The Final
Destination
is a decent
thriller that looks awesome in 3D.
