The Bigs 2 is
another sports game with attitude.
That’s the idea behind it. Games
like the classic NBA Jam and NFL
Blitz came before it but we’ve never
seen a baseball version of a game
like this, that is until The Bigs
showed up. Thank goodness it did
too, because surprisingly enough-
there is a place in the gamers
market for arcade flavored baseball
because The Bigs was lots of fun and
The Bigs 2 is even better.
Arcade
baseball… what does that exactly
mean? It means getting a chance to
dash from center field to the corner
to save a home run. It means a
chance to pitch 118 mph fastball.
And it means getting a chance for
one batter- 2 outs no one on- to a
grand slam in the bottom of the last
inning to win the game. The best
thing about The Bigs 2 is its
attitude because it has loads of it.
The Bigs 2 is a
fun game- extremely fun, but it does
have it’s problems. One is you feel
like you’re not in control of your
destiny in the game- there’s a point
system that the game implements- you
get points for striking dudes out,
getting hits, and making great
catches but a lot of it is
completely random on the computer’s
end. You see once you’ve done enough
you get some powerups- one is an
automatic homerun- the other is a
chance to load the bases and hit a
grand slam almost automatically-
those are on the offensive side of
things. On defense basically you’re
getting a chance to automatically
strike a guy out. The destiny factor
is a big problem with this game
because points are built up unfairly
and lots of times these power ups
just end up being an ‘I Win’ button.
As for what’s
good about this game, it’s arcade
baseball. There’s lots of action and
it works because of some good game
modes including Legend and Homerun
pinball. It works because you only
play 5 innings and all the games go
by extremely fast- basically it’s
baseball with lots of action and
that’s never been a bad thing.
