Marvel fans were
less than thrilled
when Disney bought
the company. They
thought that their
beloved Marvel would
turn into a Mickey
Mouse product and
never be the same
again.
The
Avengers: Earth’s
Mightiest Heroes
premiered on Disney
XD and the few fans
that hadn’t already
been won over were
won over after that.
The series is a
fantastic cartoon
that tackles the
comic-book world’s
greatest crossover
achievement and the
best super hero team
ever. Not only that
it perfectly
captures the world
of The Avengers with
great voicing,
stellar animation,
and not just
excellent overall
writing- but
excellent episode
writing too.
The Avengers coming
together in this
series is done by
Iron Man assembling
a team of super
heroes to conquer
the threat of a huge
amount of super
villains on the
prowl. After
S.H.I.E.L.D.’s four
prisons suffer a
massive breakout,
something needs to
be done so Tony
Stark assembles a
group of friends. He
gets help from
Captain America, The
Hulk, Thor, Antman,
Wasp, Black Panter,
and Hawkeye to team
up and squash all of
the escaped super
villains, HYDRA, and
Krang. Basically
it’s their job to
save the world, and
when they work
together, they’re
better than they are
apart.
The
Avengers: Earth's
Mightiest Heroes
animation style
might be the best
that we’ve seen in
any Marvel TV
series. It’s not
just great to look
at, but the colors
really pop here more
than they have in
other efforts. Also,
the character design
that the animators
did here was spot on
perfect. It’s
cartoonish enough to
look like it came
from the comic book
world, but at the
same time it’s
realistic enough for
you to forget about
that. It’s
definitely key for
the animation to be
as good as it can
be, and with
The
Avengers: Earth’s
Mightiest Heroes
it definitely is.
Voicing here is also
impressive Eric
Loomis does the
voice of Iron Man
and he does a great
job. He sounds
fairly similar to
Robert Downey Jr. He
has that type of
voice and he does a
good job with his
work in the series.
The rest of the
voice cast is
rounded out by Wally
Widget(Ant-Man),
Brian Bloom (Captain
America), and Rick
Wasserman
(Thor).
All of the voice
work done by good
guys and bad guys on
this series is
great.
As
impressive as the
animation is and as
the voice work is,
that’s not nearly as
impressive as the
episode writing.
Each episode
conquers a different
story and some focus
on different
characters but they
all end and blend
perfectly. They make
you feel like you
watched a complete
story, but they also
make you want to
come back for more.
That’s one of the
only problems that
the old
X-Men
cartoons had. There
was no pick-up point
on TV, and they were
hard to watch
individually if you
missed an episode
here or there.
The extras on this
DVD set are pretty
limited, but there
is a sneak peak at
the upcoming season
of the series on the
disc. During this
sneak peak the
creators of the show
are interviewed and
mention a few
surprises about
what’s going to
happen in season 2
without giving away
anything huge. It’s
a cool feature, and
it’s good that they
put something on
here to reflect on
how cool of a first
season this show
had.
The
Avengers: Earth’s
Mightiest Heroes
is a must pick-up
for any Marvel nut.
The creators of the
show did a fantastic
job with animation,
voicing, and writing
to make a complete
series that’s fun
and compelling to
watch. Season 1 on
DVD has me looking
forward to season 2
even more.
