Lots of people never thought there
would be another Terminator after
Terminator 3: Rise of
the Machines.
You just got the feeling that the
franchise had gone as far as it
could go. Maybe that's because the
franchise had gone as far as James
Cameron could take it with
Terminator 2, and Jonathan Mostow
botched the third installment. It's hard to
say, but it might be the truth.
With Terminator: Salvation the
franchise gets its fourth
installment, this time with McG at
the helm. This one is filled with
twists and turns and is easily
better than
Rise of the Machines
ever was. The story starts with
Marcus Wright. He's about to be put
to death. Before he goes under, he
donates his body to science. After
his lethal injection, he wakes up
eight years later. He wakes up to a
new world. He wakes up to find the
world after Judgment Day. The movie
follows him and a few others as they
travel across the wasteland to find
John Conner. There's more to the
story than that, but I don't want to
give away any spoilers in case
people haven't seen it.
Terminator: Salvation
isn't better than
Terminator
or
Terminator 2
but it's what
Terminator 3
should have been. McG did an awesome
job with the movie and Christian
Bale might be the best actor that
the series has ever had. It'll be
interesting to see if we see another
sequel. I hope so because there's a
lot of things that have been built
here for future movies.
There does
need to be an ending to this series.
Maybe it's two or three movies down
the line but there needs to be some
resolution to the overall conflict.
The Blu-Ray packaging to this movie
is a good one. Not only is the audio
remarkable, but the picture was made
to be enjoyed in high-def. In the
Blu-Ray packaging you get three
discs. You get a theatrical version
of the film on a disc with the bonus
features. you get a director's cut
of the film, and then you digital
copy of the movie. The key bonus
feature here was also included in
Watchmen.
You can watch the movie with the
director. You can watch the movie
with McG picture-in-picture and he
explains key scenes and key moments
in the movie and how he executed his
reimagining of
The Terminator
franchise.
Terminator: Salvation
has this series moving in the right
direction. The film is filled with
action and surprises. Christina Bale
did an awesome job as John Conner,
not forgetting that he's in the
movie, but forgetting that it was
him playing the role. He really
absorbed himself into it and you
don't think about it being Bale as
you're watching it. That's rare with
a lot of actors these days. The
acting and direction in the movie
was new and refreshing, McG really
gave it a different spin. It'll be
interesting to see where the series
goes to from here, but you have to
hope that a sequel is in the mix.
Look for Terminator: Salvation on
Blu-Ray this holiday season. you
won't regret it.
