The Short:  This 22 episode set features a few down episodes in the middle of the season but for the most part, it’s an entertaining adventure into the unknown.

Despite it being on the air for five seasons and soon to be six, the CW’s “Supernatural” hasn’t been a show in the mainstream of things. Lots of people have heard of it, but lots of people haven’t and that’s why the first season of the show coming out on Blu-Ray recently is the perfect introduction to the show for newbs.

The show follows supernatural chasing brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. Sam is played by Jared Padalecki and Dean is played by the excellent Jensen Ackles. The two brothers travel from town to town looking for instances in the paranormal to investigate and take down. That’s the premise of the show, but underneath there’s a lot of intriguing qualities about the two main characters and the storyline that will keep you coming back for more.

This season comes on a four disc set and most of the good episodes come on the first disc and the last disc . The real scares and thrills come during those shows, the middle shows all have their moments of thrills, but they are far less intense than the first and last discs in the set.

The music in the show is intriguing with a lot of use of old school rock music like AC/DC and Sabbath. They use some modern stuff in spots but the rock music is a welcome change from shows like Gray’s Anatomy using the same hipster soundtrack over and over again.

This is a show that you should check out on Blu-Ray. There are a lot of people out there who’ve never checked it out and should do so now. Jensen Ackles is fantastic as Dean, and even though he’s not amazing Jared Padalecki is decent as Sam. Some of the shows are terrifying while others are just entertaining. This 22 episode set features a few down episodes in the middle of the season but for the most part, it’s an entertaining adventure into the unknown.
