The Short: Season five is a fun ride through the Apocalypse, and whether you’re new to the show or old fan, it’s a blast to watch.

Supernatural: The Complete Fifth Season has hit Blu-ray just in time to get us ready for the sixth season of the show. This fifth season is it’s best season with an Apocalypse story line, some great character moments, and really what has to be the peak of the show. There’s really nowhere to go for this show after this season, this has to be its peak. Anytime a season sets a new bar for a show, it’s been a good year. The fifth season of Supernatural was a good year.

Season five’s apocalypse storyline is brilliant. Sam and Dean Winchester have a key part in the Apocalypse with Sam being the vessel for Lucifer, to bring the end of the world and with Dean being the vessel for Michael to send Lucifer back to hell. The two brothers do what they can to avoid their fates but eventually the story comes to an amazing peak at the end of the season. There’s a side adventure here and there but it always comes back to the main task at hand and that direction makes season five epic.

There’s not much you can say about this season of the show other than its excellent. Sam and Dean (Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles) aren’t over the top brilliant, but they’re good enough. The writing throughout this season is excellent, really it’s the best that the show has ever been. The most brilliant part of it turns out to be the one-liners that the writers come up with (“She’s not making any sense… and she’s not making any sense in English either”) are stellar.

Compared to how this show started, Supernatural has outlasted everyone’s expectations for the show. This fifth season is the best season of this show and one of the best episodes that any show on the CW has had. Season five is a fun ride through the Apocalypse, and whether you’re new to the show or old fan, it’s a blast to watch.
