This might be the most messed up
Christmas special ever, and I mean
that in the best way because after
all, it’s one of the darkest shows
on television and that’s what this
is supposed to be. Christmas for
Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee, and Frank
is always dysfunctional. Dennis and
Dee’s Christmas is always a
nightmare because Frank’s an ass.
Frank finds out what the kids want
for Christmas… then he buys it for
himself! Not exactly the best father
to have for the holidays. Mac and
Charlie’s Christmases are always
dysfunctional, mainly because
they’re Mac and Charlie, but also
because of their screwed up
childhoods. Mac and Charlie start
out in the best of moods on
Christmas Eve, and then they go
through their past and everything
quickly sours. Dennis and Dee take
Frank on his own Christmas Carol,
with Frank not grasping anything
they’re trying to teach him. Mac and
Charlie try and make up for their
parent’s Christmas mistakes, only to
never really want to do enough good
to make a difference. Do they ever
find the Christmas spirit? In some
ways... But not exactly. This
special is filled with hysterical
laughs, enough to make it a great
DVD/Blu-Ray purchase for the
holidays.
The special itself is hilarious and
it really is one of the best recent
Sunny episodes. The packaging is a
little weak, with a few deleted
scenes and a behind-the-scenes
Making-Of featurette. You also get a
sing-a-long which matches the spirit
of the special. The packaging on
this movie is pretty light; you
would have liked another episode or
two of Sunny to go along with this
special. Nonetheless it’s still one
of the funniest 43 minutes that
you’re likely to see on DVD this
holiday season.
