Since
the last generation
of consoles,
Spider-Man games
haven’t introduced
anything new and
there hasn’t been a
good one released
since the first
movie came out.
Activision and
Beenox fixed this
with the latest
Spidey game,
Spider-Man:
Shattered Dimensions.
The game brings four
different versions
of Spider-man from
various comics into
one game and does so
brilliantly.
Though the story is
lacking, the way the
story is told is
impressive. The
presentation of this
game is terrific
with solid work on
the cut scenes and
the constant flowing
through four
different Spider-Man
universes to unlock
and face another
enemy. There’s also
tons of unlockable
content and
challenges that will
keep you playing.
The
presentation on
Spider-Man:
Shattered Dimensions
is impressive, but
what makes this game
run is the joining
of four Spider-Man
heroes. Each
Spider-Man is
different with
unique abilities,
but the graphic
style of the enemies
and the levels is
different with each
Spider-Man too. Each
Spider-Man is voiced
by a different actor
too. There’s Amazing
Spider-Man, he gets
a classic look with
the normal
Spider-Man
abilities. There’s
2099 Spider-Man, he
gets the ability to
slow down time and
since it is the year
2099, everything
gets a futuristic
look to it.
Spider-Man Noir uses
stealth attacks to
vanquish his enemies
and he does so in a
darker (literally
darker) world. He
hides in the shadows
and moves around to
avoid foes until he
can sneak up on
them. Ultimate
Spider-Man wears the
Venom suit and he
can enter rage mode
to defeat the bad
guys in his world.
Just as each
Spider-Man has a
cool and unique
design, each boss
has one too. You’re
not fighting the
same boss all four
times, but you are
fighting different
bosses in different
universes. Green
Goblin is a circus
freak in Spider-man
Noir and Scorpion is
like… a real
Scorpion in 2099.
They all look unique
and each boss is
cool to unlock from
universe to
universe.
The
game concept is
cool. The level
design is awesome
too. Even the look
of the game is
impressive. There’s
still an awful
camera problem,
especially in the
Spider-man Noir
levels, but it ends
up being ignorable.
This game is a cool
game and hopefully
each of these
universes will get
their own games now.
I would play through
a Spider-Man Noir
game in a heartbeat
(as long as it had
those camera angles
fixed.)
Spider-Man:
Shattered Dimensions
is the best Spidey
game to be
introduced on this
current generation
of consoles. A ton
of new additions and
concepts were added
to the game to make
it unique and fun.
The boss battles and
the excellent level
design will keep you
playing until the
end and the
challenges in each
level will keep you
fighting long after
you’ve beat it.
