If you've ever
been to Disney Land or Disney World
and experienced that insane scene of
tourists and people you can grasp in
true form what Walt Disney was able
to do in his lifetime. He used an
animated mouse as a building block
to change the world. One of the
extensions of that first cartoon was
Disney's first animated full-length
feature; the first ever- "Snow
White." People laughed when they
found he was making the movie and
then he had the last laugh- (he
usually did) when it turned over and
grossed millions in the middle of a
depression.
Snow White has
since been rereleased several times
over, in theatres, on VHS, on DVD,
and now on Blu-Ray. The movie has
been digitally remastered and now
appears in a recommended packaging
of the Diamond Edition featuring the
DVD copy of the movie, the Blu-Ray
copy of the movie, and an extra Blu-Ray
disc loaded with bonus features.
Video:
The
original version of the film was
drawn and colored beautifully. On
Blu-Ray though it comes to life and
not only gives the animators justice
with a picture, but also expands on
that and makes all the colors more
vibrant and all of the textures more
life. Even in a 4:3 aspect ratio you
can tell the difference on the
digital remaster of the movie.
Sound: The
reworked sound is what it is in lots
of places. Does it sound better than
VHS or DVD? Well of course it does.
But there's only so much that can be
done with an original recording and
audio recording in the 20's wasn't
exactly high-performance. Snow White
will never have an amazing
soundscape to it but it sounds fine
and it sounds better than the
original so there's not a lot else
you can ask of it.
Bonus Features:
Chuck full of bonus content,
including a look at a few deleted
scenes, a look at the new Disney
Movie the Princess and the Fro, a
look at Snow White Returns,
a
possible short feature that Walt
Disney was going to make as a sequel
to Snow White, a music video, a few
games, BD LIVE features, and a few
other bonus feature shorts. This
package is full of bonus features
and the quality of these bonus
features gets a big A+.
Menu Work: I have
a love/hate relationship with Blu-Ray
menus. Some of them load terribly,
some of them go too slow, and some
of them look, load, and run
horribly. Snow White gets a split in
this aspect. The menu of the film
looks great with The Magic Mirror
being your guide, the load screen is
custom and not a standard load
screen and that makes you feel a
little bit better while you wait for
things. Not terrible
menu work, but not an amazing job
that does the rest of the package
justice either.
Final: Video and
audio remastered the Blu-Ray gets
definite points for that. It looks
great and sounds good too. The bonus
features in this package are
outstanding with basically three
discs worth of content. The menu
might lack a little substance but it
makes up for that with charm.
Disney's Snow White Diamond
Edition
is what you would expect from a
company that prides itself on its
history and its creator. A man that
made the world magical for billions
of children through vision and hard
work. This packaging of Snow White
does more than enough for a
groundbreaking movie.
