Billy Bob
Thorton’s work in Sling Blade was
outstanding. This is true- he did it
all in this movie. He portrayed a
ton of emotion and he made the movie
work… thoroughly. Slingblade is
about Karl Childers, a man that did
something terrible. Really terrible.
He was sent to the insane asylum and
locked away there until he was
released years later. After he gets
released he befriends Frank
Wheatley, a small boy who is in a
bad situation at home where his mom
gets beaten her boyfriend. So this
reminds Karl of his nightmare past
and he struggles to stay true and
good and do the right thing while
balancing new relationships with
Frank and his mom and the people
around the town.
The movie
itself is a great movie. When it
came out in theatres I was expecting
one thing and I came away amazed at
the content of the movie and the job
that Thorton did. That said… Blu
Ray… I don’t understand the big deal
of this movie in particular in Blu-Ray.
Look there’s a
lot of darkness in the color of this
movie. It’s all something that was
shot in that lower range of lenses
and thus doesn’t really look bright
and vibrant… it looks bland and
dark. How it’s supposed to look even
on Blu-Ray. The sound is very much
improved from the DVD version of
this but nothing really remarkable
makes this movie different watching
it on Blu-Ray and then watching it
on DVD.
Even the bonus
features are the same… there’s
nothing really added to this movie
that you can’t see on the DVD . So
if you like this movie and you don’t
already have it… buy it on Blu-Ray.
If you have this movie on DVD,
you’re probably safe keeping that
version.
