The
Shrek games have
made a ton of money
for Activision over
the years. Despite
some of them being
lousy they've never
failed to sell well.
That's probably
going to be the case
with
Shrek
Forever After,
but again with a
licensed game...
it's not great.
The game follows the
movie without giving
it away, but it
follows it in a
really rough way.
Not a lot is
explained in the
first three levels
and absolutely
nothing is set up
the way it should
be. The story
therefore is
lacking. There's
nothing in terms of
a story to keep you
entertained. Even
the way it's
presented is
terrible. You'll get
a nice looking cut
scene, then you'll
get some narrative
with text, then
you'll get a cut
scene featuring
in-game graphics.
There's no
cohesiveness to the
presentation
whatsoever.
The presentation is
one thing, but at
its heart, the game
just isn't good. It
looks fine with
graphics and the
sound is it's best
quality, but the
game itself reminds
you of something
you'd play on your
mobile phone.
There's a one button
fighting system, you
switch between
characters to do one
button functions and
you go through
countless puzzles
that aren't designed
well and rely too
much on changing
characters in every
one to find them
challenging or
enjoy.
Shrek
Forever After
will sell fine, it's
a licensed game. But
even in the view
point of the kids
that are going to
play this, it's bad.
The presentation of
the game isn't good
and what you get to
do in the game from
switching characters
to pointless
collecting isn't
fun. The smarter
thing would have
been to throw
together another
button-mashing
game... the kids
would have enjoyed
it more.
