Rocky
has been released to
Blu-ray yet again
and the critically
acclaimed movie
comes home with
special edition
packaging with
trivia and essays
included in a small
hard-bound book that
doubles as a Blu-ray
case. While there
are no extras
included on the
disc, the essays and
the facts in the
booklet make this
Blu-ray a great gift
for Father’s Day for
the dad that doesn’t
already own
Rocky
on
Blu-ray.
The
film that Sylvester
Stallone wrote and
starred in launched
his impressive movie
career that went
pretty solidly for
over two decades.
Sylvester Stallone
was inspired by a
fight he saw on TV
with an unknown guy
by the name of Chuck
Wepner fighting
against Muhamed Ali
and giving the
greatest boxer ever
a run for his money.
Wepner even went as
far as to knock Ali
down. Of course he
lost the fight to
Ali, but that fight
validated his
career. Watching
that fight and
getting that story
inspired Stallone to
write the script for
Rocky,
one of the greatest
sports movies of all
time.
In
Rocky,
Stallone of course
stars as Rocky
Balboa a struggling
club fighter who had
been down on his
luck for a number of
years. Finally he
gets the opportunity
of a lifetime, to
fight against
Heavyweight Champion
Apollo Creed.
Rocky
tells the story of
Balboa’s life
leading up to and
around the fight and
then of course
features the
greatest boxing
match in a movie
ever. It’s a
fantastic film that
was directed
supremely by John
Avildsen, most of
all though, it was a
script written
perfectly by
Stallone and acted
perfectly by him as
well. It was the
perfect role for him
and I don’t know if
he’s ever done
anything better
since.
As noted before,
there’s not much
included as far as
extra content goes
on the Blu-ray but
the booklet has some
great reading for
any fan of the
movie. There are
several facts on the
cast and the making
of the movie and it
will be fun to pick
up and read for any
fan of the film. The
extras lack but the
picture and sound
with this Blu-ray
exceeds that of the
DVD version of the
film and it’s a joy
to watch at home in
HD.
Rocky
is one of the
greatest sports
movies of all time.
Really it’s one of
the greatest movies
of all time. This
special Blu-ray book
release of the movie
is definitely worth
checking out if you
don’t already own
the movie on Blu-ray.
