In
the tradition of the
party game, mini
games have been
assembled that are
simple enough for
gamers of all ages
in
Rio.
THQ’s new licensed
title is priced to
move at $30, and
although it’s far
from perfect. Little
kids under the age
of 7 will pick this
one up and enjoy it
with the rest of the
family.
Rio
is basically a
collection of mini
games that are all
fairly simple. You
run around an
arena/level with a
limited amount of
space and you throw
snowballs or play
tag. Or you race to
the top of a hill
dodging giant snow
balls. It’s that
type of game.
Basically you do
several easy mini
games. They don’t
vary very much in
difficulty and
that’s a definite
knock. As for what
this game does
right, well it
pleases it’s
demographic very
well.
My two sons, aged 4
and 6 love this
game. They can pick
it up and play
everything here very
easily with a grown
up on game night.
The games are all
very easy to pick up
and grasp the
concept of and the
controls are easy
and simple too
across the board for
all of the mini
games. The only
thing that I didn’t
like is there
weren’t example
pictures or videos
that showed them
what to do before
the mini games
started like several
other party games
have. That’s a bit
lacking, but after
one time through
they’ll get what to
do in the mini-games
pretty easily.
The
story mode in
Rio
takes you through a
few different areas
from the movie,
Minnesota, Brazil,
etc. You have to
play through a few
mini games in each
area to progress the
story until there’s
a big celebration at
Carnival at the very
end of the game.
That’s not where the
real fun of this
game though, the fun
of this game is
on-console with two
or more players.
It’s a great family
game night title.
It’s really not good
for anything else.
Rio,
the game has its
short comings.
There’s no online
multi-player. The
character design is
decent but they
didn’t do a great
job of showing off
the color etc. It’s
not easy to just
jump in and play a
mini-game. Really I
could go on and on
with what’s wrong
with Rio. But what
beats that out is
what’s right with
the game. It’s got a
great price tag at
$30 and it’s perfect
for little gamers to
enjoy with their
parents. It’s an
ideal game night
game. Ages 7 and
down will love this
title.
