The Proposal
mashes up Ryan Reynolds- known for a
quick-witted sarcastic kind of funny
with Sandra Bullock, known for a
physical, almost slapstick kind of
funny. When Margaret Tate is about
to get deported and lose her job and
everything else she's worked for,
she ropes her assistant Andrew
Paxton into a sham marriage so he
can get a promotion and she can stay
in the country and keep her job. The
two have to prove to immigration
that their marriage is real and to
do it they head to Paxton's parents'
house in Alaska to get to know each
other.
Video: Nice bright
colors and quality direction make
this film look pretty good on Blu-Ray.
Most everything here is very
standard and very routine, nothing
is real exciting with the early part
of the film, when they get to the
scenes taking place in Alaska the
nature shots including the boat
shots are done well. Again the
direction is as routine as routine
can be but it's a character driven
story that relies more on the actors
than on the camerawork.
Sound: A decent
soundtrack, and good sound work.
Audio is crystal clear and sound
effects and things of that nature
are done very good. Sounds great in
hi-def. Good audio work.
Bonus
Features: An alternate ending that
is extremely goofy. Didn't make a
lot of sense but elements of that
are better than the actual ending of
the movie. There's also a few
deleted scenes but you can see why
they were left out- didn't
contribute very much to the story
and made things move slower. There's
also a gag-reel which is an odd mix between
bloopers and a making
of. Nothing special as far as bonus
features.
Menu: A decent
menu with a functional pop up.
Routine stuff here too.
Overall: This is a
Blu-Ray and digital copy combo pack
which is a bonus. But really what
this is: an excellent movie with a
standard package. The video, sound,
bonus features, and menu here are
all more than capable but there's
nothing extraordinarily special
about any of them. The movie is what
makes this package worth it. It's a
good romantic comedy in which
Reynolds and Bullock feed off of
each other well and other actors add
a lot of laughs too. A good movie
but an average package but still
worth it.
