Disney took a break
from 'standard'
animation for a few
years. They took a
step back from it
for most of the past
decade except for
direct to video
releases and a few
movies in the early
2000s. They instead
went to the computer
animation for a few
years and they let
Pixar do the brunt
of the work. In 2009
they returned to
their roots with
another cartoon
musical masterpiece
in
The
Princess and the
Frog.
The CG Animation is
awesome. I actually
prefer it to
standard cartoons.
But there was
something about the
way Disney used to
make movies and the
way that
The
Princess and the
Frog
was made that really
spoke to kids and
kept them
captivated. The
animation was a big
part of Disney's
magic for several
years. The animation
and the music that
went along with it.
Disney made another
classic in
The
Princess and the
Frog
and they did it by
coming back to what
made them successful
in the first place.
The
Princess and the
Frog
is definitely about
dreams. Tiana was
raised during some
tough but enjoyable
times in New
Orleans. Her father
worked shift after
shift for his family
and dreamed about
opening up his own
restaurant. Tiana
inherited that dream
from her father. She
also inherited his
work ethic. She
works two jobs
trying to raise
enough money for a
down payment so she
can buy the building
for the restaurant
of her dreams.
Tiana
is a new type of
princess for Disney
movies. And she's an
enjoyable character.
The other main
character of the
movie is Prince
Naveen. After being
cut off by his
parents for being
irresponsible and a
leech, he visits New
Orleans hoping to
change his luck. He
gets suckered by the
evil voodoo man Dr.
Facilier and gets
turned into a frog.
Naveen runs into
Tiana during Mardi
Gras and The
Princess and the
Frog
do what they were
meant to do... the
rest of the movie
and the story that
happens afterwards
is magic.
The
story of this
particular Disney
movie is slightly
different than what
we've seen from the
past in movies like
this. Tiana's
working hard for
what she wants. But
she's also lost her
way. She's so
focused on her dream
that she doesn't
take time out to
enjoy life and find
love. She's almost
lost sight of what's
important. Just as
much as
The
Princess and the
Frog
being about dreams ,
it's also about
finding what's
important in life.
The
bonus features on The
Princess and the
Frog
are solid bonus
features that are
mostly aimed at the
fact that this is
Disney's return to
their classic
animation. There's
also an interactive
guessing game for
the kids and a music
video for Ne-Yo's
"All I Needed."
Included in the
previews is a teaser
for a new Disney
movie with similar
animation. There's
no title given but
you can suspect that
it might have
something to do with
Rapunzel. The Blu-Ray
packaging of The
Princess and the
Frog
comes in a standard
Blu-Ray release and
then it also come
with Disney's Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital
Copy package which
is your best choice.
The
Princess and the
Frog
is truly a magical
movie. it brings
most of us back to
being children and
watching the
company's movies
that were similar to
this. The messages
and the story are
outstanding. This is
a must for any
Disney fan to have
on Blu-Ray but it's
also a must see for
anyone who loves
movies.
