I
came into
Predators
with
a pretty open mind.
I knew that it
didn’t have a huge
budget and I knew it
wasn’t going to be
an
action/blockbuster
like the previous
releases. I was
expecting something
completely different
but entertaining
nonetheless, I
wasn’t disappointed.
Predators
drops Adrian Brody
and a bunch of Earth
warriors onto a
game-reserve for the
killing
perfectionists known
to us simply as
predators. The
humans have to band
together to survive,
but you get the
feeling that they
all know what’s
inevitable. So the
group joins together
and trudge through a
foreign jungle to
fight for their
survival… when it’s
not really coming is
it?
As for the
predators- we don’t
see a ton of them on
the screen but for
them, basically
they’re on their
version a Colorado
ranch…. There’s some
challenge to killing
your enemy, but is
it that big of a
challenge?
Adrian Brody leads a
solid lineup of
actors also filled
out by Topher Grace
and Lawrence
Fishbourne. The
acting of the movie
is something that I
thought would fall
short, and it never
did. It was
exceptionally casted
and superbly acted.
When you toss in
some amazing effects
and some great
directorial work
from Nimrod Atal-
there’s not much to
dislike about
Predators
all the way around.
The Blu-Ray set is a
good set, it comes
with Blu-Ray and
digital copy and the
extras are worth a
look too. It
features a set of
cool motion comics
from producer Robert
Rodriguez, even
though the comics
only look at the
background
characters. It would
have been cooler to
get backgrounds on
more of the main
characters, but it
was good
nonetheless. There’s
also a great making
of featurette that
explains a lot of
the special effects
design, and the
locations for
filming including
Texas and Hawaii.
With
Predators,
the bottom line is
it was good. It
wasn’t excellent,
but it was good and
definitely worth
watching. Adrian
Brody was fantastic,
as was Topher Grace,
and director Nimrod
Atal pulled together
a great movie. It’s
doubtful that we see
a sequel, but for a
one-time shot- this
was great.
