Overlord II is one of those games
that had potential. Had potential.
Overlord had it's glitches and as a
game it was okay. There was room for
improvement and there were hopes
that Overlord II would improve where
Overlord failed. It did not.
Overlord II fails miserably in
places. The graphics and textures
are blotchy, the cut-scenes are
choppy, and the gameplay is tedious,
annoying, and sometimes extremely
flawed.
In Overlord II you are the new
Overlord, a magical creature that
has been chosen by the minions to be
the return of evil. You are the new
Overlord and your job is to take
command of your minions and take
control (or destroy) your new
kingdom.
Basically your goal is to lead your
minions around the kingdom and let
them do your bidding for you. You
control them by commanding them to
attack, hold, or sweep an area with
your right control stick. This is
fine, and for the most part it works
pretty well but there is one major
flaw to the control system. You
control your minions with the right
control stick and you also control
your camera with your right control
stick. This makes for some problems
controlling your minions and it also
creates tons of camera problems that
also existed in the previous version
of the game.
Another note about general gameplay.
Your supposed to have four different
types of minions to command, but for
the most part you'll only have one,
two, or three. The fourth minion
group isn't unlocked until late in
the game and you hardly get to use
it. Overall the gameplay can be fun,
but it can also be extremely
frustrating.
With some lock of overall production
involved in the game Overlord II
struggles to excel where it should
have. It can still be a fun
experience to play through, but you
better be prepared to have a few
frustrating moments.
