Possibly one of the weirdest but
coolest music release to come out
this year is OneEskimo. It embodies
the spirit of the digital age by
being a digital release and offering
up something in addition to some
solid music, One Eskimo’s parts can
mainly be described as what look
like flash cartoons that feature a
different song and a different video
every week.
The music is great but this concept
doesn’t necessarily do it justice.
There are lots of amazing images and
ideas implemented into the video
stuff that’s been done before mind
you but still some great ideas. That
said some of these images and some
of these ideas are drawn and shown
so remarkably that it takes away
from the music. It’s like the music
is just there accompanying the image
when it should be the image
accompanying the music on this
release. It’s unfortunate but it is
what it is.
Judging on just the video- this gets
good and bad marks. It gets high
marks for it’s animation. It’s great
and like I said some of the images
the ideas behind them alone will
kind of leave you speechless but
when it’s added with the music it
takes too much away from the music.
As for the music itself, it’s kind
of similar to Bright Eyes and
Coldplay’s more artistic stuff.
Weird movements, strange choruses,
but good music that really has a
place in today’s market. But again
when added to the video, it just
loses something.
re’s the problem with this release.
It needed to be something much more
contemporary. Something with less
thought put into as far as the
music. Music is subjective more than
any other art medium. One song can
mean one thing to one person and
something completely different to
another.. When you’re adding an
image to music such as this it takes
away all of that subjective
interpretation and it suffers. Great
idea and great spirit are in One
Eskimo. Even the animation was
outstanding but the pieces
just don’t fit together the way they
should have.
