The Short: Blood and gore at the hands of a Korean pop star doesn't sound like a fun movie. Amazingly enough it's not just a fun movie, it's an awesome movie. Rain doesn't melt faces he just puts ninja stars in them.

From the makers of The Matrix and V for Vendetta comes Ninja Assassin, a blood spattering thrill ride that is the best martial arts movie to come out in the past five years. It's got a great plot and Korean pop star Rain is an awesome lead actor.

Raizo was raised by the Ozunu clan, a clan of ninjas that kidnaps young children and basically tortures them and trains them into becoming deadly killing machines. These aren't teenagers that are kidnapped and trained either. We're talking about children as young as six doing some bloody, violent things to each other in training. The Ozunu clan is pretty much evil. Raizo is one of the few children that had a hard time adapting to the soulless way of the Ozunu. When he gets pushed over the edge he has a deadly bout with twenty ninjas, and barely escapes from the clan with his life. After that he's constantly on the run from the ninjas. Constantly living in fear and ready to fight for his life at any moment. His luck changes for the better when a young Interpol researcher digs up information on the Ozunu clan. Information that has them doing dirty work for different governments for years, all for the same price...

Rain is a great lead actor in Ninja Assassin. He's surprisingly good. A lot of martial arts movies have featured some terrible actors. That's not what they're about. They're supposed to be about the all of the action, not the four lines of dialect that the star receives. With this movie that's not the case. Rain delivers his lines really well and when it's a scene where he's not talking and they're just showing him doing something, his body language and his expressions are stellar. Rain is a good actor.

As for all of the blood and gore... Ninja Assassin might be the bloodiest movie I've ever seen. There are several scenes that look like someone planted a bomb in a butcher shop and arms and rump roasts have fallen everywhere. Not to mention the amount of blood spatter.... well spattered... across everything in Ninja Assassin.

The Blu-Ray release of Ninja Assassin has some good content including a piece on Ninjas. a piece on all the crazy dudes that helped create the movie's stunts and action pieces, and there's also a piece on Rain's training for the role of Raizo. In addition to these special features there's also an exclusive sneak peak at the new version of Clash of the Titans- and it's a great preview of what's going to be an awesome movie.

Ninja Assassin was an awesome action movie. You really couldn't want anything more out of a flick like this.  It's got a good storyline, and some awesome action sequences. Ninja Assassin is going to be a surprise for several people. It's a movie that you don't want to miss.
