Unlike
football, all of the other sports
videogames have some competition.
Mainly the duels are between 2K
Sports and EA Sports. They go head
to head in basketball with NBA 2K
and NBA Live and in hockey they go
head to head with NHL 2K and NHL.
Who
really puts out the best game each
year? It switches back and forth
some years and sometimes it's just a
push. This year in NHL games... it's
a push.
NHL 2K10 looked to
improve the look and presentation of
the game. They succeeded. Maybe
gameplay suffers slightly from this,
but for the most part it improved
from last year. NHL 09 was huge last
year. The best sports game of the
year last year. This year it's not
quite as good- meaning not as many
improvements were made, so it's
basically the same game with a few
kinks added in including a playoff
mode and a season mode. Still it's a
helluva game and the controls are
what makes it a good hockey game.
Using the right
stick to shoot and the right trigger
to pass is a pretty easy concept.
The right stick control is key. In
NHL 2K10 putting in rebounds feels
unnatural it just does for some
reason. It's hard to explain, but in
NHL 10 it works a lot better you
flick the control stick forward to
shoot the puck- if you want to add
some power to the shot you pull back
and then push it forward. Pretty
simple stuff. The controls are
better and the graphics are better
but it's not quite as good as NHL
2K10 in the checking department and
the pace in NHL 2K10 seems a little
more realistic.
So when it comes
down to it the two games are a push.
If you're a hockey fan you can't
lose with either.
