NASCAR took a break
from the video game
world after
Activision took over
publishing duties
for what once was
becoming a very
popular sport. A lot
has changed in five
years, instead of
being the fastest
growing sport in
America… well now
it’s just a sport
that everyone knows
and a lot of people
watch on TV. Not a
ton, but a good
amount. It’s kind of
like watching golf…
except there’s some
variety to watching
golf.
Anyway, Activision
now has the rights
to NASCAR and their
first outing is
NASCAR The Game 2011
with developer
Eutechnyx behind the
wheel. For what this
game is, it’s not
bad but there are
tons of bugs that
make it a title to
be skipped.
For what’s right;
they did a great job
of capturing the
look and feel of
NASCAR. Everything
from the menu system
to the game itself
looks like NASCAR.
Unfortunately that’s
where it ends with
what’s right with
this game.
The
game modes are
simple- there’s an
elimination race, a
career mode, an
exhibition mode and
the typical XBOX
LIVE modes.
Everything here
we’ve seen from a
racer before in one
form or another.
It’s a huge drag
that they couldn’t
introduce anything
new. Instead, the
main mode- the
career mode, gives
you a chance to race
through the 2010
season… with the
2011 season on the
way with DLC.
You’d
think that that kind
of thing would be
ready to roll out,
but nope- not with
this title.
As far as actual
gameplay goes,
that’s when this
gets really
frustrating. Bugs
abound with hazard
flags and pit stops.
Drafting past cars
apparently is
supposed to give you
20 mph speed boosts
and shoddy
opposition car AI
aims to wreck your
car and not much
else.
If
you’re looking for a
NASCAR fix, sure
NASCAR The Game 2011
is worth checking
out but for the most
part Activision
missed on
NASCAR The Game 2011
in a big bad way.
Maybe with the next
installment of the
series they’ll do a
better job but this
version is a big
bummer.
