In
Dreamworks’ latest
film to come to Blu-ray
and home video, Will
Ferrell stars in
Megamind.
A new superhero
movie from
Dreamworks that
pokes fun at the
genre while giving
us a great story
about an underdog
turned into a
superhero.
Megamind and Metro
Man were two babies
inserted into rocket
ships and sent to
Earth amid the
destruction of their
own planets. Metro
Man landed in Metro
City with a wealthy,
loving, family that
gave him a blessed
childhood. Megamind
landed in a Metro
City penitentiary
where he was raised
by the inmates at
the prison.
Eventually Megamind
became the super
villain and Metro
Man became the
superhero. The two
clashed in some epic
battles with
Megamind always
ending up on the
losing side. That’s
the backdrop, but
the real meat of the
story is where
Megamind comes up
with a great plan to
get rid of Metro
Man, actually does
it, but then creates
a new villain
turning the tables
with Megamind being
Metro City’s only
hope.
The script is
fantastic like most
Dreamworks movies
are. There are
plenty of jokes to
laugh at, the movie
operates at a
fantastic pace, and
just overall the
script is flawless.
The voice talent
they got to help out
with the film is
great. Tina Fey,
Will Ferrell, Brad
Pitt, Jonah Hill,
and David Cross are
the big names and
they all do great
jobs. The script is
great, the animation
is fantastic, and
the voice work
pushes it over the
top. It’s another
great movie from
Dreamworks and it’s
hard to find
anything wrong with
another solid family
film. There’s really
nothing wrong with
this movie for what
it is.
The
extras on
Megamind
are abundant. The
blu-ray copy of the
film has a ton of
bonus features
including an
animator’s
commentary, the
short featurette ‘Megamind
and the Button of
Doom’, a comic book
feature, a deleted
scene, a couple of
games, the
Dreamworks Kids
feature where you
can listen to songs
and watch previews
from different
features and just a
plethora of extra
content. They never
short-change on
extras, but here
they definitely went
all-out.
Megamind
won’t blow your
mind, but it will
keep the family
laughing. The story
told by Dreamworks
is superb due to
great animation,
great writing, and
great voice work.
It’s not the best
animated film to
come out for awhile,
but it’s another
good feature that
the whole family can
enjoy.
