When
two people are
brought together by
the worst possible
situation it’s
surprising what
those two people are
capable of. That’s
what happens in
Life As We Know It. It’s
the story of two
friends making a
life-altering
decision and growing
up into better
people because of a
choice they HAD to
make.
Holly Berenson
(Katherine Heigl) is
best friends with
Alison Novak. Alsion
and her husband have
a new baby named
Sophie and Holly is
the Godmother of the
baby. Eric Messer is
best friends with
Alison’s husband
Peter and he’s also
Sophie’s Godfather.
Messer and Holly
aren’t the best of
friends but they
frequently hang out
together because
they’re Sophie’s Godparents and the best
of friends with
Alison and Peter.
When Alison and
Peter tragically die
in a car accident
that leaves Sophie
without her parents,
Holly and Messer are
left in a strange
situation.
Surprising to the
two, Peter and
Alison left Sophie
in their care in the
couple’s will. They
try to find a close
relative to take
care of Sophie, but
there is literally
nobody else to take
care of the baby but
her Godparents. So
the two make the
best out of a bad
situation and come
together under the
same roof to take
care of Sophie, and
maybe…. Just maybe….
Something special
ends up happening in
the end.
Life As We Know it’s
writing is the best
of both worlds.
There are times when
it’s very good and
then there are times
when it’s very bad.
There isn’t a happy
medium between the
two. The first 45
minutes of the movie
are great, it’s
written very well.
It’s funny, it’s
heart-warming, it’s
realistic, and it’s
surprising. It’s
what happens after
those 45 minutes
that’s a bit
disappointing. The
writers tried to
take this in too
many directions and
ended up over-doing
this movie. Not to
giveaway the ending,
but there’s an
airport scene. There
didn’t need to be an
airport scene in
this movie and it
almost ruined it.
That’s the flicks
main flaw, it just
tries to do too much
in the second half
and it ends up
stumbling to the
finish. If it
weren’t for two very
good performances by
the movie’s stars
then it would have
been. Katherine
Heigl is good in the
majority of the
things she does.
After a tough outing
in
Killers,
Heigl recovers very
well with a great
performance in
Life As We Know It
as Holly. She’s the
star of the movie
with Josh Duhamel
coming very close to
topping her. Josh
Duhamel is great as
Messer. The role
wouldn’t have worked
for anyone else, and
he did a tremendous
job in the role.
He’s the likable
man’s man here.
Life As We Know It has some
decent Blu-ray
features. There’s a
great making of
piece. There’s some
very funny parenting
advice, a blooper
reel, and other
goodies to like with
this release.
This movie is a very
heart-warming film
that has a little
bit of everything.
It’s true that it
wasn’t written as
good as it could
have been but it was
good enough to
overcome the script
tripping over itself
a couple of times
towards the end of
the movie. Duhamel
and Heigl were great
and director Greg
Berlanti made a
great looking film.
I can recommend this
movie to anybody out
there, it’s
excellent.
