In
the ramp-up to the
blu-ray release of
Star
Wars,
Lego and Lucasfilm
teamed up to create
Lego
Star Wars: The
Padawan Menace.
The Lego universe
began to really
create content when
they started the
Lego
Star Wars
games about a decade
ago and since then
they haven’t slowed
down with
adaptations of
Indiana Jones,
Batman,
and
Harry
Potter.
But Lego Star Wars
is the first and
most relevant
property that the
franchise has done
and it’s only
fitting that they
make a movie.
The
thing I love about
the Star Wars
Universe is that
everything is valid
to the overall plot
and they don’t just
insert a story told
in Star Wars era
with Star Wars
characters. They
decide how
everything fits in
with the overall
concept of Lucas’
giant story and then
they find ways to
implement it.
The
Padawan
Menace is one of
those
implementations. To
not ruin any
surprises for
anyone, a young boy
happens to stumble
upon a group of
young padawan
learners on a field
trip with Yoda to
the galactic senate.
When there, the boy
causes a giant
ruckus with drones
and somehow manages
to save all of the
Padawans, Yoda
himself, and
basically the day.
It’s a great story
that has a lot of
implications of the
Star
Wars
universe. We see
someone in an era
we’ve never seen
them before and it’s
really cool to
experience it.
The
trademark of
anything created
with the Lego
universe, whether
it’s a licensed
property or not, is
that trademark Lego
humor. It’s kind of
slapstick, witty
humor, that you can
enjoy no matter how
old you are. The
humor in
The
Padawan Menace
is fantastically
funny and your kids
will enjoy watching
this over and over
again… probably more
than they’ll enjoy
watching the
original films
depending on how old
they are. There’s
nothing wrong with
the story; it’s
light, it’s
humorous, and it’s
entertaining to
watch.
The extras on this
Blu-ray are
extremely notable.
There are two
fantastic shorts,
one featuring Jar
Jar on a floor
buffer that’s
hysterical and
another one
featuring C3P0 and
R2D2. There are also
some clone troopers
animated comics that
are cool to watch as
well. The animation
and quality of the
extras isn’t quite
as good as the stuff
on the feature, but
it’s still decent.
Lego
Star Wars: The
Padawan Menace
is more than worth
picking up if you’re
into
Star
Wars
and you’d like your
kids to get into the
franchise as well.
They’ll love it and
it’s a cool
storyline that even
the most ravenous
Star Wars
aficionados can
appreciate.
