Laura
Croft and the
Guardian of Light
isn’t the
traditional
Tomb
Raider
game. It’s not even
a
Tomb
Raider
game. It’s a move
away for Laura from
the series that led
to several copy-cats
and maybe even the
recreation of the
third person action
game. That said,
It’s still a welcome
move away from what
had become a stale
formula for a great
character. Enter
Crystal Dynamics
studio and an arcade
formula and all of a
sudden it’s an
entirely different
approach from what
we’re used to. This
game is about
beating up bad guys
and solving puzzles-
just like Tomb
Raider, but it’s in
more of an arcade
mode and an arcade
environment and it’s
awesome to play by
yourself or co-op on
console with a
friend.
The story isn’t over
the top fantastic-
it’s more of an
excuse to throw you
into the game- kind
of like old NES
games used to be.
This game isn’t
about the story-
it’s about beating
up bad guys and
solving puzzles
along the way. The
puzzles are great,
the controls are
fast to pick up on
and easy to use,
it’s more of an over
the top arcade game
than anything so you
don’t have the
frustrating camera
issues, and the game
itself is fun and
challenging.
I
could go on and
gripe about how the
story is terrible
and it’s not much in
ways of variety, but
you can’t complain
too much about those
issues because it’s
an arcade title and
it’s about playing
the game, not
playing through the
game.
There’s not too much
to go into with
Lara
Croft and the
Guardian of Light-
it’s just an awesome
arcade game to pick
up through Xbox LIVE
(and later
Playstation
Network.) It’s a
solid- top view
shoot ‘em up game
with great puzzles,
a great single
player mode, and an
equally fun co-op
mode.
