The Kevin
Smith Collection is a nice way to
get those Kevin Smith movies on Blu-Ray
that you don’t own. In the box you
get "Clerks", "Chasing Amy", and
"Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back".
"Clerks" on Blu-Ray isn’t really
going to look better than it already
does but it’s packed with bonus
features including outtakes,
multiple ways to watch the movie and
a lost scene/animated short as well
as countless making of featurettes
and shorts. “Chasing Amy” on Blu-Ray
is eye-catching and the audio
quality is a definite step up.
There
are some new/exclusive bonus
features on the disc including a new
documentary, a couple of Q&A pieces
as well as some deleted scenes and
outtakes. There’s also a new audio
commentary piece. The third movie in
this box is "Jay and Silent Bob
Strike Back" and it’s a little
disappointing because there aren’t
really that many bonus features on
the disc. It does look and sound
damn good on Blu-Ray though.
The three
movies in this box are all good
movies but a key cog in the Kevin
Smith creative wheel was left out in
"Mallrats". That’s easily my
favorite Kevin Smith movie and while
it’s not as big as “Clerks” is in
terms of a cult popularity it’s
better than “Chasing Amy” and it
fits in with the other two movies a
little better than “Chasing Amy”
does. You would have liked to see a
new version of “Mallrats” released
instead of “Chasing Amy.” Still,
it’s a great
box
that you need to pick up if you’re
making the transition from DVD to
Blu-Ray or if you just don’t own
those movies in the first place.
There’s enough bonus features to
keep you entertained and three
excellent movies.
