I
think it’s safe to
say that Adam
Sandler’s glory days
are behind him. The
rundown’s pretty
easy but also
impressive. He made
a couple of silly
slapstick comedies
in
Billy
Madison
and
Happy
Gilmore
and then he moved on
to the romantic
comedy and never
looked back. He made
a string of five or
six really funny
romantic comedies
that all had similar
plot lines. Adam
Sandler plays a
pretty regular guy
who eventually gets
a very hot woman
who's probably a tad
too hot for said
normal guy. After
the buddy comedy
that was
Grown
Ups,
Sandler is back in
familiar territory
with
Just
Go With It.
In
Just
Go With It,
Sandler plays Dr.
Danny Maccabee, a
successful plastic
surgeon who's a bit
of a dog. After
getting his heart
broken on his
wedding day, Sandler
discovers a
successful angle to
sleep with women. He
goes to a bar with a
wedding ring on and
lies about being
unhappily married,
he hooks up with a
woman and leaves in
the morning. After a
day at work, Danny
puts the ring in his
pocket and goes to a
party. At the party
he and meets up with
Palmer, very hot
school teacher. He
goes head over heels
for her, but after a
romantic night on
the beach, Palmer
wakes up and looks
in Danny’s pants to
find the infamous
wedding ring.
Instead of telling
the truth, Danny
goes on to tell
Palmer a series of
lies about soon
getting divorced. He
enlists his
assistant Katherine
(Jennifer Anniston)
to play the role of
his soon to be
ex-wife and her
children as his fake
kids… and well…
hilarity ensues.
Sandler's made
better movies. I'll
say that, but
Just
Go With It
isn't that bad of a
flick. It's written
moderately well and
despite some jokes
that try a bit too
hard, there are
several that hit the
mark. I'd be lying
if I said that this
movie was funny the
entire two hours
that it went on but
there are several
funny moments that
will earn some solid
laughs. Plus, a lot
of the humor on
screen is character
driven by a great
cast. Sandler
doesn't always make
great movies but
he's always fun to
watch in a lead
role. The same thing
can be said for
Jennifer Anniston.
In the supporting
slots, the very
funny Nick Swardson
is well... very
funny here. And
Kevin Nealon, Dave
Matthews, and Nicole
Kidman come together
for some very funny
support work.
Brooklyn Decker
plays Palmer and of
course is meant to
look great, but she
doesn't just do
that. She acts
extremely well and
this is the first in
a line of hopefully
many more jobs for
her because she was
actually really good
in
Just
Go With It.
As
far as what's bad
with this movie.
There are a ton of
holes in the script
and tons of jokes
that don't come off
as funny... just as
trying too hard.
It's a bit like
Benchwarmers.
A great idea and
great subject
material, but when a
joke doesn't connect
it misses badly.
That and the movie
just takes too long
from start to
finish. There were
easy ways to cut
twenty minutes out
of this movie, they
just didn't do it.
With
extra materials on
this blu-ray there's
tons of extra
content. There are a
couple of great
features with the
very funny Kevin
Nealon. There’s
commentary, deleted
scenes, tons of cast
interviews, a gag
reel, and a feature
on the two kid
actors in the film.
For bonus content
Just
Go With It
gets an A+
This movie could
have been better.
There's no denying
that. But all's not
lost with it. It's a
fun, light-hearted
comedy that's easy
to watch and enjoy.
Sandler and Anniston
were actually very
funny together and
the scenery in the
movie... well it
wasn't bad either.
Funny moments with
Matthews, Kidman,
Nealon, and Swardson
made it funny to
watch too. This
isn't a fantastic
movie, but it will
do the trick on
comedy night.
