As
the years go on and
I get further into
my twenties things
start to catch up
with me. The recent
DVD release Cartoon
Network Hall of
Fame: Johnny Bravo
Season One. I
remember when the
show first came out.
It was one of the
first original
Cartoon Network
shows and it came
from a network that
had mostly shown old
reruns of cartoons
over and over. The
show came out
alongside Cow and
Chicken and a few
others and helped
develop the network
into the channel
that it is today.
The show came out
years ago when I was
just a kid, and now
that I’m an adult I
realize just how
many of the jokes I
missed when I was
12.
The show itself was
an odd idea at the
time, but something
that’s been copied
since then. Johnny
Bravo is a machismo,
muscle-bound, bone
head who thinks he’s
something of a
ladies’ man. The
truth is that he
gets slapped more
than he scores and
despite his
occasional stroke of
dumb luck, his
intelligence hinders
his goal of getting
with a hot mama.
Johnny Bravo is
Johnny Bravo hitting
on all the ladies
and getting turned
down every single
time. That doesn’t
keep it from being
hilarious.
This DVD set
includes the 13
episodes from the
first season of the
show. It features
commentary from
creator Van Partible
as well as Seth
McFarlane who worked
on the show before
moving on to his
work on Family Guy
and American Dad.
The episodes are
mostly good with
there being a few
stinkers in the
middle, but overall
it’s a solid set
with some surprises
in the bonus
content. This has
some fun moments for
the kids, and it’s
also got more than
its fair share of
adult jokes thrown
in for... for the
older kids.
